  One of the best professors out there for a religion class. Every day was uplifting, simple, engaging, and I left feeling like my testimony was strengthened and just happier. A few simple assignments, straightforward tests, everything I could ever want in a religion class. And its so clear that he cares about his students and wants to help them.

  I have never seen a professor who knows his students so well! Professor James had everyone's names memorized before the first day of class. He always called everyone by their name and remembered things about each student. Had amazing lectures with very doable assignments. Hands down the best professor I've ever had.

  I love Professor James! His class is super fun and really spiritual! He's a fun guy and his assignments are very doable every week. In the lectures, he gives you the exact questions that will be on the tests too!

  This guy is awesome. His class is super fun and he gives you all the answers to the exams in class. He will start each class with a slide that has 3-5 questions on it that will be on the final. Just make sure to write those answers down and study them for the exams.

  Brother James is a great guy. He never goes into the weeds when it comes to teaching the doctrine and always keeps it simple and profound. This class seriously strengthened my testimony of Jesus Christ. The tests are all from the key questions from each lecture that he posts on the board before class, so if you study those you're golden.

  Professor James is so funny! I loved going to his lectures and learned so much this semester. He does have some homework assignments, but they're super easy. You do have to study for the tests, but they are also not too hard. Overall a great class with an amazing professor.

  I love Brother James!! I took him for both 121 and 122, and I'm so sad I probably won't have him again after these. His class helped develop my testimony and provided so much insight on aspects of the Book of Mormon I would not have had otherwise. His class never failed to uplift me emotionally and spiritually. Take Brother James!!

  Easily the best religion professor here at BYU. I wish I could take every religion credit from him! His lectures are so respectful and introspective. He genuinely cares about his students' situations and goes out of his way to allocate for individual student feedback and experiences.

  Best religion professor ever. He sincerely cares about his students and has a range of respected insights due to his personal life experiences. He is funny, doesn't beat around difficult subjects, and isn't afraid to respectfully shut down folklore with facts and doctrine (much appreciated). Workload is easy. Take him any chance you get!!!

  Brother James was my first class at BYU and I couldn't have asked for a better Professor! RELA275 (Teachings and Doctrine of the Book of Mormon) will probably continue to be one of my favorite classes I ever take. Brother James is phenomenal at explaining gospel principles and keeps it entertaining and engaging! Very manageable course load.

  I had him for REL A 275 and loved it! I was impressed when I first had his class because he shook each student's hand and greeted them by name. I could tell he really loved what he was doing and I felt the spirit each lesson. Tests were easy but I did have to take some time to study for them. I highly recommend him!

  Bro. James is a G!! He's very much a father figure to me. I've never learned so much about the Book of Mormon nor have I been able to personalize its' message so much. He takes the time to get to know his students personally and he makes studying the scriptures fun and less like busy work. So underrated, best BOM professor on campus!

  I like him as a person but didn't like his tests. They had a lot of trick questions. Also, sometimes you had to do a lot of reading. One time he assigned a reading that was like 30 pages or something crazy. He is funny though.

  Professor James is a really funny guy. He really tries to get to know everyone in his classes and loves when you participate. You graded yourself on reading which was cool, and there was a one page journal due at the end of every week about the reading. Tests were easy, but not a free A. There were two essays which were short and graded very easy.

  Really great professor! He's very kind and funny and makes it easy to learn about the Book of Mormon. I definitely had to study for the tests a little bit, but they were not terribly difficult. The weekly reading takes time but is not hard, and the papers were not difficult either. Overall a very good class experience!

  Absolutely great teacher! His lectures are always super interesting and very fun! The only assignments are weekly scripture logs, two essays, and the finals all of which I found pretty easy. I highly recommend this class!

  The most inspirational and hilarious professor. He has a structure that I think works perfectly. He gives you the questions we need to know the answers to for the midterm/final, making it very easy to study for the exams. One reading journal due a week.
