Soulmates (✔️) - Chapter 33 - Page 3 (2024)

"My grandmother sadly passed away nearly two years ago after her very long battle with brain cancer." People gasped and the press started taking even more pictures. "It started first when she had severe headaches, she then started forgetting things such as the name of her children or the name of her grandchildren. She soon lost her vision and also had speech problems. She suffered so much and then was finally laid to rest." I gulped back the tears, "it broke my heart when the news came to me that she has passed. I loved my grandmother with everything I had and she loved me. I was the closest to her out of my whole family and to see a healthy happy woman just deteriorate like that made me sick." I paused, "Why don't we have a cure yet? I question you all. I give my money away in grief but hopeful towards a brighter future for others losing their loved ones to this sickening disease."

"Luke!" A reporter yelled as if it was a press conference, shoving the mic into my face. "How long had this scandal gone on for?"

I furrowed my eyebrows, "scandal? She was sick. There was no scandal. I cannot comprehend as to why you would think that was a scandal." I frowned deeply, "I believe it is rather rude that you have decided to shove a microphone and camera in my face instead of paying respects." I ran my tongue over my teeth and clenched my jaw as the questioned were thrown at me, "if you were decent human beings you would understand a loss and be respectful." I refrained from snarling but did so anyway.

"Luke just one question!" Someone else yelled and that's when I snapped. I couldn't be in the same room as these savage people, who refused to sympathise with the situation at hand.

I planted a fake smile onto my face, "please," I paused letting out a smooth collected chortle, confusing the crowd into thinking everything was fine when it really wasn't, "enjoy yourselves and have a great night." I swiftly turned and my smile quickly fell as I was shielded by countless bodyguards as I was led away from the scene.

I sat in one of the dressing rooms letting out a loud scream and lashing out. "f*ck!" I screamed, trashing the room. I shoved things off the vanity table and stared at my reflection in anger. Stray angry tears that caused a sob to be forced out from my lips shook me. My chest heaved with anger and sadness. I gazed at my pathetic reflection and punched the mirror with full force and anger. I stared through the cracked mirror to see my guards looking at each other in concern and at me. "What the f*ck are you looking at?!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. They stayed silent and anger spiked me even more. I hated the silence. Silence was where I could be left with my thoughts. "What the f*ck are you looking at I said," I shouted at the top of my lungs through the dripping hot tears. They didn't answer me once again.

"Your knuckles are bleeding sir." One of my guards grimaced at the sight of my bloody knuckle and hand. The blood from my hand dripped over my white button shirt and the bespoke suit. Oh f*cking well.

"So f*cking what? My heart is f*cking bleeding." I threw my hands in the air in frustration. "Oh look at me! Such a f*cking poet!" I seethed, kicking the chair. "She loved f*cking poetry!" I kicked the chair again. "She wrote f*cking poetry." I kicked the chair again, completely breaking it. It fell, distorted and broken much like myself. I laughed manically, "god, how f*cking pathetic." I pulled out a flask from my suit pocket and opened it, drinking all the contents and then throwing it aside. I rolled my eyes at myself and flopped into the only unbroken seat in the whole room.

I put my hands to my face in dismay and wiped away stray tears, quickly. "I can't believe you would do such a thing, Luke James Brooks!" I heard my father's stern voice, very quiet and menacing. "Leak our family problems out! Look what you got out of it!" I glanced up at him as my mother gasped at the wreckage. "What the hell did you do to this room?!" He exclaimed.

"Darling, your hands. They're-"

"Doesn't matter," I mumbled.

"I cannot believe you would do such an immature thing at the cost of our family-"

"Excuse me." I heard Kelsey and I looked at her. "I know it's not in my place to say anything but he has a right to tell the press because if he hadn't they would assume he was being stupid with his money."

"Just stay out of it," my cold eyes now matched my father's and my tone was harsh. "You're right." I paused to glimpse at my father before looking down at the floor again, a certain vulnerability showing, which I did not like. "I should have never publicly announced that grandmother died. I shouldn't have given all of that money away. It's just another failure on my part." I stood up, my expression gravely sad. "So I apologise that I tried to help and do something for once. I'm sorry for being such a failure father, mother." I ran my bloody hand through my perfectly gelled hair and winced at the pain. "If you'll excuse me," I muttered, brushing past them.

"Mr Brooks, he only meant well. Luke always tries to mean well. He does things for the good of others never himself-" Were the last few sentences I heard from Kelsey. My heart wrenched as I was out of earshot. I was shielded from everyone as I sat in the car and drove off to a place of comfort and sadness.

Her resting place.
